Цагаан сар -Mongolian New Year



 The Tsagaan Sar- Mongolian New Year (Цагаан сар) 



            Tsagaan Sar is the first month of spring and it has been one of the most important celebrations of Mongols for centuries. This is a time of the year when winter passes away and spring comes in.
            Tsagaan Sar means White Moon is a celebration of New Year. It represents a heartfelt spirit of people.  It is the day to fresh the body and mind from all bad things and start a new life for the new year. Main purpose of the Tsagaan sar is people pay respect to elder people and relatives, renew friendship and sympathy to each other and reconfirm family ties. This is the big day that families and relatives gather together.

Khoorog- Хөөрөг 

Exchanging Khoorog means expressing friendly intentions to each other and is usually the starting point of introducing a stranger.

Mongolians cook three important dishes for the event. Heviin boov, uuts and buuz

Heviin Boov is biscuit made of flour and it is the second main dish to be on the table. Layers have to be odd numbers  three, five, seven and nine as the odd numbers to represent the happiness. 

Uuts should be cooked by a professional person for the great and quality outcome. It is almost a whole sheep’s back, particularly with a big fatty tail. It is impossible to find uuts in any other country rather than Mongolia.  Having Uuts with as big a tail as possible, wishing the family wealth and prosperity.  


    Buuz is steamed Mongolian traditional dumplings. It is very important dish for every celebration in Mongolia. Buuz are prepared weeks before and left outside to freeze. They are consumed with salads.
